Purposefully Pounding Poundbury's Pavements

Purposefully Pounding Poundbury's Pavements

I waited till today, 1st January 2016 - a propitious date I feel - for my first running blog post because, although I set this blog spot up last Wednesday determined to write up running life so far, I was filled with depression.

I am now seven weeks into the Complete Beginners Training Schedule which started me at Week 1 with: Run one minute, walk 90 seconds. Repeat eight times. Do three times a week (I was knackered after that first session). It has increased incrementally every seven days (Saturday and Sunday, two days off, woo hoo!) Week 7 is: Run 15 minutes, walk one minute, run 15 minutes. Do three times a week. But Wednesday I failed, miserably, unable to complete the second fifteen minute stint. I was seriously depressed, this was my first set back. Well, apart from aching back, sore toes, twingey knees and ankles, etc.
I just thought, this is it, I can't even complete the basic fitness building schedule and next week is marathon training, I'm doomed!

Amazing what 24 hours of rest and recovery can do, together with a pep talk from my number one support operative and husband, who suggested I get a change of venue and go and run round Prince Charles's architectural and experimental social housing project, aka Poundbury. So far I've limited myself to running round the Lakes or on the treadmill, and I guess I was getting stale. He was right of course, and after a great training session, here I am filled with buoyant good humour and the sense of achievement I always get once I've run.... I think I'm OK for next week!

To think I used to get excited about a pair of Manolos or Laboutins... These are the dogs bollocks of running shoes: Asics Metarun, The Best Distance Shoe in History (it says on the box). They come with their own brochure with details about Optimized Uppers, Flyte Foam, X-gel and Sloped Duomax. Hell, as long as they get me across the finishing line! Thank you Poole Running Free for allowing me to buy 'em, I hope I do them justice! Apparently these babies are so special there are only a dozen or so stores that stock them and they are allowed one pair in each size and no re-orders! Kind of short-sighted as a marketing strategy I feel....
Peace, love and happiness. Mx
